Lake of the Forest Golf Club
We have made significant improvements on our 9 hole sand green
course. This course is over 80 years old so the greens are very
established. We add sand every year and we have been planting 20-30
trees a year, rebuilding tee boxes and trying to kill as many moles
as we can. The luxury of a significant number of retired golf enthusiasts
to do volunteer maintenance work has made it come together nicely...Keep
it down the middle. (T.L., 4/18/02)

This course DEFINES pasture golf. We mow it ourselves. It
is an old private course built and maintained by about 25 avid users.
It is located about 15 miles southwest of Kansas City on a hill
overlooking the Kansas River valley. It is covered with undulating
fairways and is quite hilly. This course had a Pro in the 1920's.

Reason for submitting
course: |
Would like to develop dialog with other pasture golfers to share
ideas on maintenance and care of "browns" and perhaps
engage a "traveling" competition tournament with another
sand green course.

This private course near Bonner Springs, Kansas, features
four sand bunkers. The most difficult hole is the 400 yard par 4 number
7. Recent additions include a new tee box on number one which makes the
par 5 less reachable; a new pavilion for shade off number 9; some new
tree plantings; and tee improvements on number four. In other news, we
oiled some of the sand greens this year and started a new mower fund in
2001 with tournament proceeds. Sand rakes and drags on every green.
